It was that time of the year - the annual AMKSS NPCC unit camp! This year’s camp was held from 4th to 6th June. Campers went through 3 days 2 nights of fun and enriching activities that were organized by Secondary 3 Cadet Leaders (CLs).

For this year’s camp, 4 camp objectives were set. They are (1) bonding, in which campers are strongly encouraged to bond with one another throughout the camp, (2) resilience, in which campers are strongly encouraged to always do their best in all activities even if their team could be losing badly, (3) independence, in which campers are strongly encouraged to be independent during some of the activities and (4) campers are strongly encouraged to keep a positive mindset throughout the camp. The theme for this year’s camp is none other than… AVENGERS! We picked this as we felt that the theme would go well with the camp objectives.

This year’s camp was different from previous years as it was the first time the Muslim campers got to stay over thanks to the appointment of a Muslim teacher, Mr Azizan, who took good care of them. It was also filled with games. The games were organized such that campers would not just have fun but also have more than enough opportunities to bond with their group members.

Day 1 was more of getting to know one another. We started the day off with the welcome speech, rules and bunk in. The fun part came thereafter! Campers started with introduction within the group and played some ice breaker games. We could tell that the campers really enjoyed themselves during ice breakers as we could see the smiles on their faces.

There was also team based activities where campers had to work together.

After expending our energy, it was time for lunch - outdoor cooking! Campers went through an outdoor cooking lesson before starting on it.

Next was the highlight of the day, hike at Lower Pierce Reservoir. It was tiring but also worth it. We got to enjoy nature’s breeze and saw things that we would never see if we stayed in school. So, the hike from school to Lower Pierce definitely paid off.

Night fall and came our blindfold activity. Campers went through obstacles with the help of their Group ICs all while being, you guessed it - blindfolded! Some of them were even scared and didn’t want to move unless they were holding someone.

Fun activities filled the second day. We had the activity that everyone had been wanting to do. It was AIR PISTOL! But before that, we sat through a theory lesson on how to handle it. This enrichment programme would also really help the Sec 1s and 2s who eventually have to go for their .22 revolver shoot.

After both the theory and practical session, we had our lunch. This time, the campers had to be independent and try cook the noodles themselves.

After lunch, we went back to our Air Pistol session where we had a mini competition against Girl Guides.

In line with the camp theme Avengers, the next activity was Infinity Badges. It was pretty much an ‘Amazing Race’ where after each station, groups will be given a hint to locate one of the six badges, much like the six infinity stones in Avengers: Infinity War.

The last activity of the day was Campfire Night! Under the lead of the Emcees, Ethan and myself, the campers truly enjoyed themselves as they sang their hearts out. It was the best night that we have experienced. I would also like to thank the seniors for taking their time out to show their support for the campfire. It wouldn’t have been the same without them.

For Day 3, it was a day where emotions were mixed. It was our final day together. Before dismissal, campers had to be responsible cadets and clean up the areas that they have used. It could also cut the cleaners a break by having less places to clean.

Last but not least was the aw

ard presentation. We of course had to appreciate the campers who have done so much for their group - from being the most participative to having the most positive mindset throughout the camp. Congratulations to Li Shen from Thor and Ji Kai from Thanos for achieving the Best Camper for this year’s camp. They are definitely a role model for the other cadets. Bravo!

We would also like to show our appreciation to the Teacher Officers, Honorary Officers and Cadet Inspectors for all their help and guidance throughout the entire 3 days 2 nights. Without them, the camp wouldn’t have been a success.
